Guys and Dolls is set in Depression-era Times Square.  It follows a couple of big-city gamblers and their wives and girlfriends.  It tells overlapping stories of Sky Masterson, a high roller, and Sarah Brown, a mission worker with whom Sky falls in love. Guys and Dolls also follows the story of Nathan Detroit who is engaged for fourteen years with Miss Adelaide, a headlining performer at the Hot Box Club. Nathan runs an infamous crap game, and throughout the story, he is looking for a safe place to hold the game. Meanwhile, Miss Adelaide tries to convince Nathan to marry her. Sarah mistakenly believes that Sky set up an illegal crap game at the mission, and tries to fight her love for Sky.
