Upon the August 2013 passing of our great founder, Craig Matheson, a scholarship fund was created so that those wishing to honor Craig's life might do so by making a designated contribution to Staples Players.

Each June/July some portion of these funds will be awarded to a Staples High School graduate that is pursuing the study of theatre and has demonstrated he/she possesses the same admirable characteristics and qualities that caused people to love and respect Craig. He was a remarkably kind and compassionate friend, teacher, mentor and Westport resident that cared deeply for others and faithfully served his community.

Hello, Dolly! is a musical with lyrics and music by Jerry Herman and a book by Michael Stewart, based on Thornton Wilder's 1938 farce The Merchant of Yonkers, which Wilder revised and retitled The Matchmaker in 1955.

The show has become one of the most enduring musical theatre hits, enjoying three Broadway revivals and international success. It was also made into a 1969 film that was nominated for seven Academy Awards.
